Hello, friends!
I am very excited to share that my new series, New Rat City, is coming to Kickstarter on September 27th! You can sign up on our pre-launch page here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/honorvincent/new-rat-city-part-1/
New Rat City is a tale of squelchy eco-horror set in 2080s New York City. A union of exterminators is the only thing keeping the city's few remaining residents safe from pests... until swarms of upsettingly coordinated rats and roaches show up.
(If you know me in person, I trust you are shaking your head knowingly right now. My dad was an exterminator for about a decade. In childhood rebellion I used to collect bugs. It all tracks.)
George Quadros and DC Alonso -- who you may recognize from Andraste -- are doing the inks and colors, respectively, and Lucas Gattoni is doing the letters. The cover above is by Ariel Medel and Saul Shavanas, and there will be a variant cover by George and DC available as part of the Kickstarter campaign as well.
Here are the first three pages of Issue 1 (there are more sneak peeks on our Instagram):
I've been thinking about and working on this story for a long time, and I feel like it finally found its proper shape this year as a comic. It'll be a four issue miniseries, and the plan is to launch print runs in two parts on Kickstarter: this campaign will be for Part 1 (Issues #1 and #2), and we'll do another one in January for Part 2 (Issues #3 and #4).
There's some more very exciting news about its future publication that I'll save for later, too!
Come say hello at NYCC!
In my last letter I casually, very coolly, in a not-at-all overly excited manner dropped the news that I'm tabling at New York Comic Con this year. If you're going, come say hi at Booth I-26!
I'm tabling with J.L. Johnson Jr. (who happens to have a campaign for their fantastic Ennead series running right now!), and we'll have a bundle deal on our books and other fun goodies. Plus, I'll have a present for you if you let me know that you're a newsletter subscriber!
What about Andraste?
We're still chugging along! Unai's up to page 17 of inks for Issue #4. This issue included a bunch of new character designs he developed, including Lugh, golden god of kings and warriors, and Cernunnos, horned god of the woods. Do you love the nod to elven ears in the Old Gods? 'Cause I sure do:
The script also included multiple panels of a horse and a cisium (a small commuter chariot), because I am a monster; Unai drew these without complaint, because he is a champ.
Alright, that's all for now! I'll have some more previews of Andraste pages, news about New Rat City, and fun facts about rats and Romans next week.
