I’ve migrated my newsletter over to Substack — if you’re a new subscriber from the New Rat City campaign, welcome; if you were a TinyLetter subscriber, welcome back!
If you’re new here, this is where I share news about my work and panels-in-progress, as well as weird animal facts and historical anecdotes I come across in researching both of my series (you can also check out the post history to read old letters; lots of good gifs in ‘em). I also have a blog where I sometimes write about the grim, icy, brutal business side of making comics.
Have I been terrifically organized about all this? No, and now everything’s kind of all over the place, which has been bothering me. Hence the move — the plan is to put everything I write about comics here going forward. There are two sections on the Substack:
Panels in Progress will have information about the business end of making indie comics, and maybe eventually interviews with other creators about how they work (!)
News and Notes will have updates about when new issues of my books are coming out, behind the scenes stuff about my series, and assorted Rat/Rome Facts.
You’re all subscribed to the main newsletter list, which means you’ll get letters from both (currently empty) sections. But if you’re very much not interested in one of those topics, the nice thing is that when the first email for each section goes out, you’ll be able to decide if you want to unsubscribe from one section without losing the other.
Regardless, I don’t expect the frequency of the emails I’m sending to become very high any time soon — weekly at most, but monthly is more likely.
I do have some exciting news to share, but I’ll save it for next time when I’ve got a little more pep: right now it’s after midnight and I’m currently deep in the weeds of campaign fulfillment for New Rat City. Which is fun in its own way; I like making a little assembly line and letting my mind wander as I pack.
On the other hand, I also have to print a lot of mailing labels. And my dinky little home printer has taken great personal offense to this. I believe it is trying to give me an eye twitch in retaliation, because it knows I need it, and so I cannot Office Space it in a field. Yet.
But I’m heartened by the fact that I’ll hit the promised delivery date for the campaign: the first batch of New Rat City: Part 1 books are on their way to backers outside the U.S. (Finland! Singapore! England! I find that pretty cool!), and the rest will be getting on their way over the next week, paper jams be damned.
Thanks very much for joining me! ‘Til next time.
